Notes from Nowhere - Chapter 15

This is Chapter 15 of the audiobook I am providing for paid subscribers. Here’s the link to Part 1. Let’s start with a baseline - What would a better world look like? That’s what I did with this story - from the apartment that I shared with my family in Honolulu during the lockdowns of 2020.

In this chapter, we start to see a little bit of what higher education might look like in the future as well as the academic life. I lean heavily into the idea of Hawaii being a mixing bowl rather than a melting pot. In Hawaii, it’s not like the cookie mixture is blended so much that the individual parts - so the chocolate and walnuts are still walnuts and chocolate even as they become part of the cookies. It’s one of the beautiful things about the Hawaiian culture. Immigrants and new cultures that come to Hawaii have their customs adopted by the locals versus having to give up their culture and traditions to adopt local ways. It’s a synthesizing rather than a dominating culture.

Notes from Nowhere is a book I wrote in 2020. At the time, I thought that blockchain publishing might be the future of books, so I signed a contract with a Creatokia. The NFT art was created by my friend Femmebot.The money I made was all donated to the Hawaii Mutual Aid Society to help the victims of the devastating Lahaina Fires. Fun fact - this book - Notes from Nowhere was inspired by a book written in the 1890s called News from Nowhereby William Morris. Notes from Nowhere (this book) is the inspiration for several follow up stories I wrote and the recent anthology of stories Future World 2323 by a handful of really amazing fellow writers who joined me in defining the future. We ran a kickstarter for and will be sending out copies of Future World to those who backed soon.
